I can't seem to be able to look at everything I want on the net. I don't mean dodgy websites or anything, I mean things that ANYONE could look at/read/use on the net! For example, say I'm browsing through the questions on this website and I click on one I want to read in more detail, this message comes up and blocks me: 'Error! This webpage has been restricted by the webmaster, press Back to continue browsing'. I don't get why that's coming up. I've been trying to do some research on the web for Uni and I keep getting blocked off from websites I need to use. Not necessarily whole websites though - I can sometimes go into a website but I'm blocked from certain pages on that site :-(

sometimes if you remove the last part of a url you try to access a directory on the webserver rather than a specific file. This access may be blocked to anyone but the owner of the site. Other times there may be files that are used by a web page but can't be accessed by putting a direct url to them, for example to prevent others from using images on their own sites

The answer is pretty obvious: your network activity is being restricted by the administrators. If you're at school and getting this, and you feel you have a good reason why you should have access to it, you can always call the IT department and ask why it's blocked and if you could get access to it.

Sounds like you're either at a university or somewhere other than your house.

Your internet-overlord who controls the incoming traffic has probably applied some pop-up blocker a too high a level. Or has disabled applets from running, or javascript.
Need more information though about your surroundings:

What browser are you using (IE or Mozilla or ?)
Where are you connecting to the internet from (home, office, classroom?)

Try this first. In explorer click on tools, click on Internet options, make sure your security and privacy tabs are set to the default levels.Just click on set to default if they are not.If that appears OK,click the advanced tab and restore defaults there.I would try that before a full system restore.
Best of luck
