My aged mother got one, and United Utilities practically paid her to take the stuff. Mind you, she lived in a largish house, with a fairly high historic rateable value, took showers rather than baths, and didn't get out in the garden much. Of course, garden watering can be done more economically by fitting a "diverter" to a downspout from the roof, and using a water bvtt (sorry about the spelling, but I don't want to fall foul of any American ideas about unsuitable language!)

Yes, the meter will save you money. Just make sure that the readings the water company take (if they bother to take it at all) are accurate. My water company guesstimated my bill for 5 years. When I checked the meter reading myself, I found that I had overpaid several hundred pounds.

we've basically had a water meter put in,my husband say's we could percentage the bathe and ignore the bathing up,he's were given a field load of paper plates and we can in consumer-friendly words devour waiting cooked food.he's now setting up an earth closet bathroom yet we are having trouble with the load of the soil on the joists.

Yes it probably would be quite bit a cheaper, but bear in mind that all these companies are in the business of profits and it will not be too long before the prices creep up !

Depending on what she pays at the moment it might be worthwhile changing. I did years ago and saved approx £100 per year on my bill.
