More important. College degrees today are equivalent to a high school degree back in your parents day (assuming they're on the older side).

I dont think it is as important as b4 like 10 yrs ago.
the reason being after microsoft has launched the self study books and short courses that vary from 1 week to 3 months there wass a turning point. Especially in the IT field as companies employ you for jjust doing their certification.
eg microsoft
oracle
cisco
College degree is important however we are in the speed generation where in IT experience is more important than degree as what they teach u is not so much related to real life issures.
But for medicine, engineering, law and a few other professions then the only was is to go thru college.

I think moreso. As "Equal Rights" are available, there are more and more people fighting for the same positions, so the higher education and experience would give the higher chance of employment. Also, with all the legal stipulations these days, you'd need a high education to avoid getting caught out.
