Hello,

My wife got her blood test done to determine whether she is pregnant of not. The report provides the observed value as 522.5 (The test is HCG beta subunit, serum by CLIA (31 days of cycle).

Is she pregnant or not.

Her Dr. should of told her the test results. I had a blood test done five months ago because I took a pregnancy test and it was positive but the ultra sound found nothing there so we took the HCG level and it was 540 and my Dr. told me that I was pregnant and very very early. Turns out I was only 4 weeks along so that is why they couldn't see anything in the scan.
With the number that your wife has sounds like she would be anywhere from 3-5 weeks pregnant. If you go to your search browser and type in HCG level of over 500 it will tell you that anything over 5 is considered to be pregnant and will give you the numbers and how far along she would be. Once you have an HCG level done it can be done again in a few days and the numbers should more than likely double. I had mine done and re-checked because that is how they can determine if your very early in pregnancy or on set of a miscarriage . If your pregnant the next test will go up considerable and if it is a miscarriage the level will drop. Good luck to you and sounds like Congratulations are in order?

Anything over 5 indicates a pregnancy. The most sensitive urine tests do not detect anything lower than 20-25, that is why the urine test is showing up negative. If you are having bleeding, you may be having a chemical pregnancy. You might want to have your bloodwork repeated at your doctor's office to see if the HCG level is going up or down.

Why wouldn't the doctor tell you? I've never heard of a doctor not doing a pee test first to try and confirm that way before heading on to a blood test. But even if he did skip the pee test, why would he NOT tell your wife she was pregnant?
