i think kobe is the best player too play the game because as you see this season he isn't scoring as much as last year but he's pasing more and making his teammates better and it's true if jordan didn't have pippen he wouldn't have won a championship. also i think kobe is trying to aim for a mvp for the season, so he's making players around him better.... go lakers and go kobe

Sorry to burst your bubble, but no, Kobe is not the best and will never be the best. Like someone said, what exactly is the criteria for being the best? The NBA has got a lot of great players, but unfortunately, they are underrated and forgotten, while Kobe, because he is a selfish, arrogant jerk gets all the attention because the media loves the b's. Just because Kobe won three championships, that doesn't make him great. He had a supporting cast, and not to mention, Shaq! If it weren't for Shaq, the Lakers wouldn't have won those three championships. But winning championships isn't what makes a player great. Look at Malone, look at Stockton, look right now, and see all these great players no one ever talks about like Gilbert Arenas, Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett, Zach Randolph, Dirk Nowitzki, Michael Redd, Caron Butler, the list could go on for a while. You have your two-time MVP Steve Nash leading the Suns right now with teamwork, not just a one-man cast, you have Carlos Boozer and the Jazz playing their hearts out. You have T-Mac and Yao in Houston, you've got a Chicago Bulls team that's coming back up for the first time since Jordan departed. Do you mean to tell me that all these players aren't as good or better than Kobe? Just because Kobe has got the rings, does that elevate him to a higher status? Hell no! Sometimes winning a championship is more about luck than anything else...think about game 5 of the 2002 Western Conference Finals...Robert Horry in the clutch will a buzzer-beater three to beat the Kings...had he missed, Kobe would have only had two rings now. Point is, there are a lot of players that are great, and deserve their glory, A.I. has lots of heart, and LeBron is still very young...Carmelo is already posting up 31.5 points per game, Gilbert Arenas is playing like MVP, Pierce gets stuck on a losing team with no one to help, but still gives it his best because he has the heart of a champion, Jermaine O'Neal is a huge contender in Indiana...enough said.

NO.
I will elaborate,
There is no way you can ever even name a particular person as the best to ever play the game because there will always be someone better than whoever is here now.
This is one of the reasons rap music artist fued constantly, because they are always arguing as to which one of them is the best.
I can think of players such as Karl Malone who were great at the game and yet never won a championship, not even with the lakers themselves.
The matter that he won 3 championship rings doesnt mean he cant be compared to the three individuals you mentioned, for winning championships doesnt make you the best player it makes you the best overall team.
And how did you come about the idea that kobe at 27 is better than Jordan at 27?
i think that when kobe scored his career high 81 points
people started to make too many false conclusions.
I am from Los Angeles and have no reason to dislike Kobe Bryant
but he is simply not the best to ever play.

I think, and I've been a faithful NBA fan for 30 years, that the 2 things you really have to look at when determining how great a player really is, especially if your talkin "Of all time"!
#1 Is he an all around type player? Is he a great scorer, passer, rebounder, assists, an intelligent player always thinking 3 plays ahead, wit a lot of steals and great shot blocking as well!
#2- Is he the type of player that literally can not only carry the team if he has to but also makes everyone around him a lot better! If an NBA star can do all of #1 consistantly he is very rare indeed. And if he is everything mentioned in #2 he's also very very rare. There are only a handful of guys that you can say that about in the history of the NBA and Kobe is definetly not one of them! Jordan wasn't all that "all around" but he was the most prolific scoring machine in the history of the game! But yes, he had Pippen and a great team! Teamwork is what wins championships! Bird had McCale and Parrish . Who does the Lakers have really? Kobe and thats about it because Kobe shoots just way too much I think. Another thing to look for is MVP's! For example I would start my list of all time greats with Wilt Chamberlain, Larry Bird, and of course Jordan. Also Bill Russell and Reggie Miller! Steve Nash has already won 2 in a row and looking at a 3rd! Why? He's just a great all around player and look at the Phoenix box scores and you'll see that at least 5 guys on theam always have at least 20 pts. He makes all of them better! He may not have a consistant 30 to 40 points but he always has lots of assists. Like 15 to 20! Passing? Probably the best passer the league has ever known! Most mentioned except for Miller have won 3 MVP's in a row now that's really rare but they were just that great! I put Reggie on there because of scoring, best 3 pt. shooter of all time and his ability to elevate the teams he played on! I really think if a guy is a 88% to 92% free throw shooter is important as well! Bird, Nash, Novinski, Reggie and Jordan: all 88 to 90% free throw shooters which usually translates to a high field goal % as well! I might even put Magic Johnson in there too but the bottom line is that these guys are extremely rare and tough ball players with God givin type skills but everyone of them worked their butts off too! Kobe Bryant is just way too selfish to be on this list and I've heard someone say the 81 or 82 point performance he had was the worst game of his career! How do you think some of the Lakers feel about Kobe shooting all the time? Thats just not how the game is played. You have to get everyone involved with great passing etc so everyone scores a lot! Bird was that guy! He had triple doubles all the time! He'd score 42 points yet have 13 assists and 15 rebounds! That's special stuff! That pretty much sums up a guy that does it all! Day in and day out! Probably 88% of all players that have ever played just don't make this list...period!

Can you explain what is the criteria of being "the best player ever to play the game" ?
The way I see it, each and every position has it's best player depending on its timeline.
