depending on what you are looking to do with them --collecting or shooting. the Winchester 44/40 was a fine carbine and was chambered for the 44/40 round to match the Colt 44/40 handgun cartridge. this was an advantage for the Westerner as they only had to carry one size cartridge.
Winchester also made a 10 gauge lever action shotgun based upon the carbine/rife design. if you can find one these are also a good collectible piece.
for modern times a 22 is all right for cheaper " all around " shooting but for serious hunting a 44 magnum or for even more firepower try the 458 Winchester magnum. a 30.06 or 308 or a 7 mm are also good choices. for hunting most States require something bigger than a 243 caliber

The 30.30 lever action is the ultimate Winchester. The .307 and .564 are like Elephant Guns.
