how long do u need to keep wage slips for before you can dispose of them..i have a shredder on standby

i am applying for a couple of things at the moment that require me to trace back 3 years. however my grandma recently was asked to provide bank statements etc from much further back. end of the day, they don't take up much room, just keep hold of all of them, in lever arch folders or something similar in a loft or something

You can get rid of wage slips as soon as you get them, however, it is always better to keep them for the whole tax year, as when the inland revenue contact you, you can make sure everything is correct. Also, if applying for loans etc., you may have to provide details of pay.

Keep them for at least 2 years as that is what a mortgage/lender company would want to see as proof of income and service with your present employer.This makes getting a mortgage allot easier

Once you have got your P60 for the financial year you can dispose of your wage slips for that year - as the P60 will have all the necessary information on it

If you have to fill in tax forms then you need to keep financial records for at least 5 years. If not, then best to keep at least 3 months work for ID/proof of earnings purposes should you ever need them.
