It is a mental illness. They ust see fat. Very sad and they need help. they get slim and think they can get slimmer and look perfect, its like an addiction. It goes on and on. If they dont get it they are at risk of killing themselves. Society doesnt help much when they see celebs looking thin. What they dont tell you is that the celebs photos you see in mags are airbrushed to make them look good.

I was anorexic in my teenage years but I did not look in the mirror and see fat, I knew perfectly well I was bony but I loved it! I loved looking everyday at how my bones were sticking out more because it kind of proved to me I was skiny, I weighed my self 100s of times a day, I would even stand on the scales while I ate half an apple, I couldnt bear to eat as I was convinced I would become extremely fat, I didnt realise how bad I actually looked to others though because to me I thought I looked great but still felt I could loose a bit more, there was no bigger buzz than getting on the scales and seeing that I had lost another pound.
This is sad but true, I am now 85% cured, I am healthy and happy but I do still worry slightly about my food etc but life is too short.
I hope this explains some things for you.

Fashion, girls toys, other peer pressure...
Girls mentally develop before boys, about the age of thirteen it starts, a soon as the cranium joints in the skull have started to fuse. Boys who use the male hormone to put on a lot of growth, have to leave the mental development to later, as the saturated hormone would make them aggressive if they tried to do the mental development first.
However, we are all different, there are young juvenile males who get it wrong, and get very aggressive, and young juvenile females who develop the bodies first - one of the nice things about being human, our development by mistakes.
For the majority of Humans, the women emerge mentally, but are still in a child's body, one that is catching up with the brain. Some however, do not make the transition to a woman's body, and try to starve themselves or (bulimia) vomit the food out after eating to try and arrest the development away from this adolescent body. They don't think that they are fat, its more a case of they don't look like a teenager anymore, Society - our media tells them that this development is fat, and they believe it.
I doesn't help when fashion only uses models with abnormal bodies, to display clothes upon. The male equivalent, is that a teenager will 'wake up' from this childhood reactions with a fully formed body, but some don't seem to like the responsibility this brings, and so remain very immature, or want to enhance what nature gave them so start taking additional hormones to continue muscle development after the process has slowed down.

Who knows, its something in their heads that make them believe that they are fat evening when they are as thin as a pin. When they look in the mirror they seem themselves as fat and due to this they diet more or don't eat. I think the fact that magazine are air brushed and the fact that society and the media says that in order to to considered beautiful you need to be thin has a lot to do with it.
It used to be that size 6/8 was considered small, but now young girls and famous celebrities want to be size zero, as that is now the in thing

It depends its a phscological problem all sort of things can trigger it like bein bullied by bein called fatty or having children or having depression or if you've suffered bulimia.it's how they percieve themselves so when they look in the mirror instead of seein a nice slim or attractive girl/boy all they see is a fat horrible one, self esteem can also be a factor.xx

The reason they think they are fat is a mesh of mental issues, insecurities, and the MEDIA. The media is a big portion of a problem but so are insercurities and mental issues so you can't really blame it on one set thing.
