You are entitled to maternity leave, but not your pay. Unfortunately. Some companies do offer paid maternity leave, and even offer the fathers some weeks of paid leave too.
But most are crappy and could care less about their employees.
Sad isn't it?

A mother who is an employee, will have the statutory right to a minimum amount of maternity leave. The employer may also offer their own Maternity Leave scheme. Do visit the excellent website below (TIGER); as soon as all the relevant info has been fed-in, it will give you ALL the info you need. I used to use another area of this site when administering leave and pay on behalf of my employers. By the way, your friend will also accrue holiday whilst she is on leave, but any holiday accrued BEFORE commencing maternity leave, must be taken before leave is started. (Thereby leaving a 'clean slate'). The holiday accrued whilst on leave is often added onto the end of Mat Leave, if this is agreed between employee and employer. The second website is linked to the first and may also be helpful.

If she is still working for the company at the moment and has holiday owed to her, then I'm sure she would be entitled to take that holiday. Just because she is currently pregnant should not make any difference to her holiday entitlement.
Give the DWP a call to check.

If she has holiday days left then yes she can take them you can usually add them on to your maternity leave. Your maternity leave is seperate from holiday. She needs to speak to the human rescorces department about this or look in her contract that whould outline all holiday details and maternity details.
I tagged my holiday onto my maternity leave as I had a week to take.
The best person to get the correct information for her job is her human resorces department though. Tell her to give them a call that is what they are there for!.
Good luck

Hi
I work for the council in the uk. I was going to take my leave at the beginning of my mat leave and the accrued at the end. Unfortunately I had prem birth so I am currently taking it all now before I return. I don't know if it is the law that you accrue it while on mat leave but she will certainly be entitled to take any she already has b4 she has her maternity leave.

Your employers will have a policy with regard to Maternity pay sometimes it depends on your year of service with the company she needs to ask for a copy to see if she fits the criteria. However she should be entitled to something and if they are saying other wise i would go to the citizens advice bureau.
good luck.

Yes, companies have to allow a woman to have maternity leave. If this company says no, email me. I want the case. It will pay for the baby's education.

It depends. If you live in the US and the company has less than 50 people or you have not worked for the company for 12 months, the company does not have to abide by FMLA in giving you 12 weeks off. Even if they do have to give you 12 weeks off, they do NOT have to pay you.

Yes you can take leave - usually people add it onto their maternity leave. However, it all depends on the company you work for and how long you have been employed there.
