Sounds like a throw out bearing to me. If you step on the clutch, it whines, and then stops when you let off the clutch. It's a throw out bearing. If you have a newer car and ran through a deep puddle? it will wipe out the grease in the bearing. It will cause premature wear but it will run for a long time without a change. If you have a lot of miles on your clutch? change the clutch and the throw out bearing before you get stuck! Good luck :o)

Usually, throw out bearings only make noise when you do put your foot on the clutch pedal. That is the only time they spin.
If there is no play in your clutch and the bearing is spinning all the time, maybe when you push in the pedal the extra force on it causes it to spin more quietly. It is possible, check the play.

It could be an input shaft bearing in the tranny too.

Your throw out bearing is going out. It requires about the same amount of work and is in the way of the clutch. So you can live with it until it seizes and you get stuck, or have it changed, and for the cost of the clutch I would go ahead and have it replaced while they are in there.

"There is a loud whine that disappears when i put my foot on the clutch.” key word people 'disappears' so how can it be a release bearing? or 'throwout bearing'? its going to be the lay shaft(input shaft) bearing that is gone, due to the load is taken off it when the clutch is disengaged! if it was the 'throwout bearing' it would whine when he put his foot on the clutch due to a load is on that bearing then!

Well, sounds like you have a bad throw-out bearing.. and you might as well put a new clutch kit in there also...but have you checked your slave and clutch master cylinder to see if the fluid is low...

your throw out bearing isn't fully disingaging or has gone bad. or the transmission is low on oil. have it checked and or adjusted, or if the clutch is old redo the whole thing. good luck.
