Is it normal for a 19 yr old to be afraid of the dark?

Mostly outside dark, and some inside dark if it's really quiet.

There are people older than that who are afraid of the dark. I believe that fear of the dark is more a fear of the unknown. You can't see what nasties might be lurking so you create 'monsters' in your head. Try to relax about it. Be sensible at night by staying in the company of others. I live alone in an old place that often creaks and I can rarely get to sleep unless the tv is on timer for me to get to sleep. Try some relaxation methods or put on some music in another room to take away the quiet. Leave a light on in the hallway if you are still scared.

Some people take longer to get over fears in there life's so the person who is going through this should not be alarmed just let them know that things in life that scare them can sometimes take a long time to conquer.

Let them know there is nothing to be afraid of because there is nothing there help to keep them calm and collective and tell them to breath in and out till they feel the fear is gone this is one thing i can suggest to them :)

Being afraid of the dark happens to a lot of people so they are no alone in this :)

Everybody is different, commonly children are the only ones famous for having this fear, but actually fear of the dark is more common than most people think it is... Older people are just to shy to accept it... Anyways... if there is something anyone is afraid of, he/she must confront his/her fear and only this way it will disappear...

Sure it is. Not unusual at all. Lol all the macho studs that are saying no it isn't are so full of it. Take them out to a grave yard on a moonless night blindfolded handcuff them to a heavy bench or something like it and then ditch them there and watch just how scared they will be .
