One's love toward the child, toward the parents, toward the friends, toward the God etc... each is emotionally of different experience... Your expression of love and expectation as well would be different from each... unexpecting love to the child.. demanding love toward the parent... give and take toward the friends... so forth...

Love in all these is however expressed by positive caring and sharing... the caring and sharing part is varied in each though...

But there is the other - negative or possessive - aspect of it... whether with parents, children or friends... there, you would expect the other to love you only in return... and get hostile otherwise.. making the loved one(s) sad, angry or confused... Most corruptive or vitiated form of love is that of physical infatuation among opposite (or same /both) sexes. These can not at all be called love... Because Love by sane definition should be voluntary, selfless, undemanding... any selfish element would forfeit its label of love...

Love is like gravity it pulls things together. Only when the 2 become 1 is love truly fulfilled. And then is there love anymore - certainly there is not that same sense of it - only a feeling of happiness.

(this is not just theory - it is from personal experience)

when nothing matters except for being with that person. when you get mad or argue you make up in a hour or less every time. If you break up or separate, you come back and they take you back cause its terrible to be without each other. true love is when even though things aren't going right you can still face any thing with that person.

Love is a strong liking for someone. It's a strong passionate affection for another person.
Love is patient and kind; love is not jealous or boastful; it is not arrogant or rude. Love does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrong, but rejoices in the right. Love bears all things; believes all things; hopes all things; endures all things.

True love?
like said by other, when 2 become 1 is when love is at its highest... love is accepting a person for who he really is and not for his public image, love is accepting that the other is not perfect and still be willing to live your life with him/her... There is also true love towards your family and to god... Love isn't always happiness and smiling, it can make you cry, but if you can forgive and keep it going, then there it is... true love....

Love is very patient,
Love is very kind,
Love is never envious
Or vaunted up with pride.

Nor is she conceited,
And never is she rude,
Never does she think of self
Or ever get annoyed.

She never is resentful,
Is never glad with sin,
But always glad to side with truth,
Whene’er the truth should win.

She bears up under everything,
Believes the best in all,
There is no limit to her hope,
And never will she fall.
