Is this an external memory card reader? Do other USB devices work on your PC?

I don't know if you're using a desktop or notebook - but the one commonality is actually the USB.

Almost all (if not all) memory devices such as Smartmedia/XD, MMC etc.) all use a 'card reader' that connects to the computer via a USB connection (I know sounds weird). These readers are internal in most modern systems... but they are still USB devices.

Contact your tech support folks for whatever brand you have and get instructions to check seating and cabling as well as drivers.

Since you didn't mention type of system, brand or model its hard to give a better diagnostic that that.

I can tell you in years working in the industry - this was initially a hard to diagnose problem - but should be straight forward with the details on the system.

Peace,
