Pros -

Great system for $250
Can play virtual console games (old zelda, mario for cheap)
controller - easy to use
Graphics are good. I don't know why people feel that graphics have to be HD quality when 90% don't have an HD. By the way, I do have a 50" HD and the graphics are very good (use the component cable).
Browse the web
Check your weather
view digital photos and also has a slideshow that is nice to leave on!

Cons -
Controllers and Nunchucks are expensive (40 and 20) and very hard to find!

I got mine last week and I'm really enjoying it!
Pros: Nintendo is great! My Wii didn't work, they sent a replacement within days! So far the games are fun. You have more control over the play

Cons: it's not a DVD player (my husband finds this a con, I personally don't care). not a lot of games yet. Hard to find Wiimotes and Nunchucks (I've lucked out and found extras of both)

PROS:
$250
Motion sensing controllers, detect where they are at all times, enhances gameplay, wireless
Many classic Nintendo titles (Zelda, Metroid, Mario...)
Virtual Console, gives you the ability to play old classic games for a small fee.
Small, the Wii is about the size of three DVD cases stacked on top of each other.
Fun for whole family, such games as Call Of Duty and Red Steel are targeted for mature audiences, yet they still offer, Wii Sports, etc.
Backwords compatibility with GC games
A little slot that lets you insert your digital camera memory card and store photos on your Wii.

CONS:
Definitely the graphics, they look at best like the original Xbox
Idiots using the Wiimote, a lot of people aren't using the wrist strap, and they're breaking a lot of stuff due to it flying.
HD compatibility, some games don't cooperat very well with HD TV's (such as a friend's 52 incher)
Controller takes a lot of batteries man
NO DVDS OR CDS, the Xbox and PS2 were doing that.

the Wii is the most affordable next gen console...

The Wii is intended for game play rather than graphics so expect just a little improvement....

Also...for certain games you may need space since sitting down while playing some of the games can feel a little bland....
for example....playing Wii sports in a couch doesn't make it a sport is it..(opinion)

If your planning on multiplayer..beware of the extra prices.... nunchuks and Wiimotes cost over 50$$...

All in all...the Wii is affordable and fun...
It is intended for gamers who play the game for the game rather what the game looks and feels like.....

Games are very fun. Controllers allow to you take a sort of hands on feel with the game. Really good family system.

Cons: Sore hands/wrists from controllers, and the graphics aren't as good as a ps3 or xbox360.
