This is ridiculous! It's just more cash in there pockets, and more out of the consumer! Of course it's not going to stop people from buying junk food, they're already addicted. Why don't they lower the price for healthy alternatives? Government funded gym memberships, or free light n' easy to everybody? They won't, not as long as it's in there best interest too. The government just want more money, there not worried about the people. How would they decide what needs a tax? Does the 6gm or less Subs get a tax too??

I think it has about as much sense as the whole "sin tax" idea, which is to say, no sense at all. I now have to pay extra for something because people think I shouldn't have it. We might as well all go watch the movie "Demolition Man" and take notes on their system of government and laws. Then all restaurants will be Taco Bell, only without anything remotely resembling a taco.

I haven't heard that it's actually about to be enacted. It's just one of many things desperate and stupid people have proposed to try to combat the obesity epidemic. Fast food will still be cheap and fast even with the tax. It's the fast and cheap that attracts people to it.

also known as "Twinkie tax", "junk food tax," and "snack tax," is a tax on calorie-dense, nutrient-poor foods. The tax has been proposed as one means to address the obesity problem. The consumption of junk food is supposed to decline if it becomes more expensive. The revenue from the tax would be used to promote healthy nutrition and anti-obesity programs.
Smiddy will vote for it with no hesitation. Enough of not being able to enjoy my coach seat on Ryan Air because we're surrounded by Junk Food addicts!!
