OSMOSIS:It is the movement of water molecules through a semi permeable membrane from a dilute solution to a concentated solution.
Eg:If a cell is placed in salt solution,it shrinks as the water in it body flows out towards the region of lower water conc that is into the concentrated soln(salt soln)

DIFFUSION:It is the movement of molecules from their region of higher concentration to their region of lower conc.
eg:When a perfume bottle is opened its smell soon spreads to the rest of the room.

Diffusion is the movement of a substance from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration, kind of like air rushing out of an airplane at altitude. Osmosis is the movement of water across a selectively permeable membrane, like the membrane around cells. Osmosis is really a different word for diffusion of water.

Diffusion is any process of high concentration to low concentration which does not require any energy because the universe is entropic. Osmosis is the suffusion of water molecules through a semipermeable membrane from high solute concentration to low solute concentration. Difference is osmosis NEED a semi-permeable membrane for it to be called osmosis while diffusion is just any process of molecular movement with or without a barrier (in this case the semi-permeable membrane).
