What the hell kind of birth control injection is monthly?

If you're talking about Depo-Provera (once every 3 months), then the answer is no. It is about 99% effective, and it creates an unsuitable environment in the uterus to host an embryo...which is why your wife probably isn't having any periods right now either, if she is on Depo.

there is always a small chance that she could become pregnant, even though she's had the injections. it should only be about a 2% risk though. the only way to be 100% sure of not becoming pregnant is to not have sex !!! so maybe u will just have to live with that margin of risk......

That's the idea behind contraception, isn't it? To prevent a pregnancy. She obviously doesn't want children right now. Take the hint.

you just answered your own question. If she has her injection on time every time she has it then no she will not get pregnant. It is as protective as the pill is.
