my gearbox exploded in december and i had to have it replaced. when the garage replaced it they also had to change the clutch and flywheel. since then i've been hearing a clicking noise randomly on full right lock. usually under adverse camber. do i need a new drive shaft or cv joint?
cheers

also did the mechanic need to remove the drive shaft or cv joint to replace the gearbox. could it be their fault?

If it is a front wheel drive vehicle or a 4 wheel drive then i also say CV joints and weather you replace them or not depends on how loud the noise is and how much the noise annoys you.
They can go on like that for quite a while without causing any undue damage but as the noise gets louder they obviously need doing , but it is quite an expensive job.
you can get reconditioned units a little cheaper than new ones, but it is a labour intensive job and if you only get the noise on full lock then they can go on for a while because how often do you use full lock on a vehicle. if they only make this noise under full lock on acceleration then start saving for the job because when they do it under normal turning you need to get them done pronto otherwise they let go and you are stuck on the highway somewhere with no drive.

That type of noise is usually the CV Joint Open the Rubber Gaiter over it and pack with grease if the noise contuies replace the joint but it is best to replace the joint if the car is a few years old or done high mileage

The shaft drive is quieter and doesn't need maintenance as often as a chain. I don't believe I would search out a bike based just on which drive it has because chains today are much tougher and more reliable than in the 1960's when I first started riding. A third drive not mentioned is a heavy duty rubber belt with teeth. That is very quiet and needs no maintenance. My belted Harley has 65,000 miles on it and still looks good for another season. That is usually not recommended at higher than 120 horsepower so I you are looking for a screamer with that kind of power it would be best to go with drive shaft if it is an option.

I would put a 99% certainty on the joint. Its so rare for a shaft to have something wrong unless they dropped it or bent it...

if its clicking in lock only, then its the CV my friend, its too late for grease now!
check your local motorfactors, they do them much cheaper than manufacturers, and they are not hard to do yourself, i have done many

usually the cv joint goes first....but you may need both...it depends on the wear on the driveshafts splines....
