You should get winamp instead. The audio quality is better, it has an easier and quicker setup and more customizable interface. The regular version is free and does everything that windows media player can do (with less of a drag on your system resources). If you want to get a pair of speakers, I've heard that klipsich speakers are among the best. If you don't have the cash to shell out for those, you could just get some creative speakers, just make sure that they aren't surround sound speakers, because I am assuming that you probably don't have the connections for it.

I use win media version 9 found it had less issues
as for how much you have music file wise
watch your hard drive space if it gets too full
it can seize up your hd
always leave lots of room on your drive get an external HD
as for speakers if you have a hifi get an audio cable and
plug pc into that via audio out better than pc speakers anyhow
if not almost any external speakers will do
but it depends on how much you spend
as you pay for what you get chk online for prices etc
I also bought a cheap sound blaster external sound card
as pc sc quality is often rubbish
good luck

Your windows media player 10 will be OK with larger speakers,
for I have two very large speakers myself with the sound of media player 11 blasting through them, just to give you an idea what I have done is to have a Hi Fi lead with a 3.5mm mini plug at one end which splits in to two leads for "Right/Left Channels" plug these to leads in to the back of you HI FI unit or amp, and the mini plug into the back of your computers line-out socket (sometimes green) and that's all you need to do, to obtain good sound from your computer, just remember if you do use large speakers they will need to be powered externally for the output power from the computer will not be enough to drive the speakers,
I found that the method I used was a good choice,
I hope that this gives you some idea on how to obtain good sound from your computer. good luck.

Hello,
ANS:- When it comes to computers & audio (sound & music) what you need to know is that there are a number of things you always require.
No.1 The computer always needs the correct audio (sound) drivers before you can listen to or hear any sound. Drivers are small bits of software that you load onto your machine, the drivers allow your computer & windows (the operating system) to talk with your hardware i.e. speakers or microphone. The drivers & windows need to fit together inorder to work together and give you sound.
No.2 Speakers are just considered another piece of hardware to windows & your computer. But you have to know which sockets at the back of your computer you connect your speakers into. Normally there are x3 audio sockets (one for left speaker or channel, one for the right speaker or channel & one for a microphone).
No.3 Most speaker require connecting to the mains power supply to run them (unless they have batteries?). There are a large range of wonderful speakers you can choose from on the market now a days the problem is narrowing down the choice to match your needs.
No.4 Your computer will probably have what's called onboard sound, this is a sound chip on the system board this emulates a full blown sound card. Or your machine might have a specific sound card installed especially for music or digital audio editing.
**WPM (windows media player 10 is fine for digital file, sound, audio or MP3 play back).

I would say... no logitech. Though they make good speakers for those on a tight budget, they are really nothing when compared to normal speaker brands. My personal recommendation would be to go with AudioEngine as they make excellent computer speakers. By excellent, I do mean EXCELLENT. The other answerer also mentioned them. Some other good brands to look at... JBL, M-Audio, Klipsch. But most of all, AudioEngine. Check them out, check out their reviews. Even order a pair and try it for a while... if you don't like the AudioEngines they let you send them back for a refund. I would bet you will like them though, they are truely amazing for the price.

Your software is fine.
If you want better sound, it may be worth buying a decent soundcard, maybe one that will let you have 5.1 surround sound. I can't really recommend one as I don't know what your needs are, nor the spec of your computer. But maybe get PC world to recommend one for your computer, then buy it from eBuyer as they are a heck of a lot cheaper!
As for speakers, Creative Labs do a good range - from very basic up to top range so you can get a decent set for a good price.

If you want a decent sound, get decent speakers. By that I mean don't get computer speakers. Get hi-fi speakers, and wire 'em up. The best high-end computer speakers money can buy aren't a patch on even a set of average hi-fi speakers...

Assuming your sound is working and you are just not satisfied with the quality you only need to replace your speakers with something of a better quality. The choice is wide depending on how much you want to spend and how much noise you want to make.
PC world or similar outlet should be able to help you part with your cash.
