Its a very common side effect of epidurals...i choose not to have one with my kids because shortly before I had my first child, a good friend of mine whose baby was already 1 year old was constantly complaining about chronic back-ache...she was only 19 so unlikely to be general wear and tear at that age. She asked her Doctor what he thought was wrong and when he realised she had had an epidural he said it was probably that that had caused it. I did however have one, without my consent after a major surgery (unrelated to childbirth) and I have suffered with back-ache ever since.

The anesthesiologist tried to give me an epidural, she poked around in my back with 3 needles but wasn't able to get it in the correct spot so I had to have a natural labor. Anyways, to answer your question, about a year after the birth, I started having really bad backpains and went to the dr. After a bunch of MRI's and bloodtests, they determined that the epidural needle gave me an infection and damaged some cartilage between the discs, so yes, it can happen!!!

Yes was advised to have one to keep my blood pressure down. To which came out slightly and was only draining down one side resulting in horrific pain targeting one spot, to top things off as it was ineffective & due to other complications I had to have an emergency caesarean under general anesetic so I new nothing and my husband couldn't be there. And to top it off i still get bad back pain only on one side which i'm sure is result of epidural cause of where it is over 2 1/2yrs later how ever it hasn't put me off i'm pregnant again advised to have a planned section this time and will be with another epidural so my husband can be there and I can have some imput, also the fear that this epidural won't work, but apparently it's a different kind!! Fingers crossed:o)

yes,i was told a week before my baby was born that i would have to have an epidural because my daughter was double breech the midwife told me if i had dilated to far they would let me deliver natural so i put up with the pain of contractions for ten hours and when i got to hospital i was 6cm but they still made me have one.

I cannot speak from experiance (as I am a bloke) but from when my wife had our children, the ladies in her ward that had epidurals had pain for longer afterwards than those who did not. Short term gain for long term loss? of course, sometimes there is no choice....

yes, i had an epidural with my last baby and it hurt for the longest. i could not even bend to pick her up due to the pain. it will take some time for it to go away but it is normal to get that pain.
