My English textbook says that "Nice meeting you." and "Nice seeing you." can be used only when people met each other for the first time; in other words, the expression should not be used in case people met more than twice. Pleae tell me how you use them in America. I am a Japanse who is studying English.

Yes that's correct.
You only say "Nice meeting you" or "Pleased to meet you" when you meet a person for the first time.

For the times after that you would generally just say "How are you?" (or "How have you been?" if you are asking specifically about what's happened since the last time you met).
Colloquially you might say "How's it going?" or "What's up?" (see also the Budweiser "Whazzup" commercials which take this to ridiculous extremes...)

the english textbook is not entirely correct. it is appropriate to say "nice seeing you" while departing from people you've met several times. For instance if someone were to say "Well I must be leaving now." you can say "It was nice seeing you". Now you should only use "It was nice to meet you" or "Nice meeting you" on a first encounter. And like the other phrase it should be said while departing. Either after you express the need to leave or the other person does you can conclude by saying "Nice Meeting You"

I usually use "Nice meeting you."as you are leaving. When you meet someone for the first ,and the meeting is ended. You can shake their hand and say it.or just say it.It can also help you end the meeting,if you look at your watch, and notice you are going to be late going to your next appointment or something. You can say something like.... "I'd like to talk some more, but I'm running late,it was nice meeting you.Maybe we can get together again sometime(or soon). At that time,IF you do want to meet that person again you both can exchange phone numbers,or just ask for their phone number.Actually at first it may be safer for you(when you meet a stranger)to just get their number. Then IF after you know thwm better you want them to have your number-you can give it to them.Good Luck! I hope this helps! It was nice to meet you!

English textbook. Bah! Nobody, and I mean nobody expresses themselves like their school textbooks say they should.

"Nice meeting you" is something you say when you're saying goodbye to a person that you met for the very first time. You can't "meet" someone more than once.

"Nice seeing you" is something you say when you're saying goodbye to a person that you already know, and you probably hadn't seen them for a while. You don't say "nice seeing you!" when you're leaving your best friend's house...you might say it to his parents when they're visiting from out of town, though.

You can say it to people, even if you meet them a second, third or any number of times, again. You could be meeting them the next day or after some days , it doesn't matter when, you can say it whenever you meet them , but you need not repeat it if you are meeting them again the same day itself.
