Okay Japan is FILLED with all you can eat restaurants! tabehodai are everywhere, they have a table for about 4-6 people with a little grill in the middle and then you go and choose your meats and food and cook it yourself. Its the best dining in the world. I have been to heaps, or in America as you may say, Ive been 'tons' of times. I really recommend going! And who ever says that Japanese don't like to gorge themselves obviously hasn't met the teenage boy kind! LOL.
Its usually pretty cheap about 1000-2000yen for the cheapy ones.

Many hotels have Japanese buffets. When I was in Ginza the other day, they had a buffet at a restaurant named `Cats and Dogs`. Tokyo is a large city, so it is hard to pinpoint a buffet without you specifying where you are staying. Look up on http://www.bento.com where buffets are located, or call some hotels in the area where you are staying and ask them about buffets. If I were you though, I would not waist my money on cheap buffets. Tokyo has some of the best food in the world. Italians have told me that Italian food is better in Tokyo than in Italy; French people have also told me the same, but French is expensive. Spend a few extra bucks, you will be glad you did.

If you are looking for buffet restaurants in Tokyo, be aware that the price ranges from 800 yen to 1,200 yen above ..prices are different compare to dinner. You can find buffets around stations where hotels offer lunch/dinner buffet, yakiniku place...
at lunch time even if this is not a buffet, you can ask for extra servings of rice, soups, tea, side dish without extra charge and you can eat what you really want like tonkatsu..(cutlet pork, shrimp etc.) sushi, tempura, gyudon... not even costing you more than 1000 yen.
Where there are many shops/restaurants/malls/people around that is the best spot where you could find many that offer Japanese kind of buffet in Tokyo..
I got invited to Tokyo American Club..they have 3 kinds of buffet style..great! Price? it's free. so hope you'll have someone that offers you this chance too.
When you are talking of Japanese buffet, nothing is cheap.. but it worth even you spend more than 1,200 yen above which you have a meal and good service. not many offers Chinese buffet in Tokyo for a cheaper price, I guess the Japanese cook do better in their chuka ryouri and the price would be more expensive on their selections of ingredients..

That may be hard to find since the Japanese are not known to gorge themselves with cheap food like us Americans.
Food is expensive there, because of limited land, a large population, and a restriction in importing food.
