If you don't want a typical myspace look, you will probably have to use a web design program such as Dreamweaver. Too expensive to buy just for myspace. You might try Microsoft Frontpage. Not sure how much designing it will allow.
You will need to know basic web design techniques. You need to use photobucket or someplace to store photos online so you can use their code to place in your design (i.e. background image).

there are different formats , that you can make your page look, just do a search on myspace , for the format options etc , and you can get the code for a particular format .
