Eskimo kissing is named for the Eskimo greeting of rubbing noses. In its western form it consists of two people rubbing noses together. A common misconception is that the practice arose so that Inuit could kiss without their mouths freezing together. In fact, it is a non-romantic form of greeting that serves the same role as shaking hands for a people who, when they meet, often have little except their nose and eyes exposed.

In the movie "The Fast Runner," the main character greets his wife like that when he comes home from a long fishing trip - rubbing noses and smiling - it sure looks like a form of a kiss! The movie was completely produced and written and acted by eskimos, so... that would make me think it really is an eskimo custom.

Well some one said that Eskimos rubbing noses is the same as kissing. But after living with the Eskimos for 6 months. Rubbing noses is just rubbing noses and they do not equate it with kissing it is just a sign of affection to them... They told me that only the white man sees it as their version of kissing..... Quote and unquote................

The idea of Eskimos rubbing noses to kiss actually is a misconception. In a human sexuality class I took it said that "the Eskimos would get close enough to smell each others pheromones". This was their way of reaching arousal, so it was then thought that they were rubbing noses to kiss. When in all actuality they were getting very close to be able to smell the aura of each others pheromones.

I didn't know eskimos did that, but the maoris do - they hold each others heads and put their foreheads and noses together. I have tried it - it feels really good. I think we should start doing it too.

I learned early in life that there were 3 kinds of kisses. It is not what you do in a kiss, it is what you say to yourself during the kiss. 1. "peaches" 2. "plums' or 3, "Alfalfa" --- (known today as a French kiss) Dear Olga: look in the mirror and say "peach" - that is one type of kiss look in the mirror and say "plum" - that is another type of kiss look in the mirror and say "alfalfa" - that is the French kiss. **** What is the difference between an American politician kissing a baby for publicity, and a French politician kissing a baby? (((Olga, darling)))) -- I am waiting for your answer to my question about politicians.
