Has anyone had a first hand encounter with a ghost? How did you handle it?

I refuse to categorize the following experience in any way--it was simply something odd that happened to me when I was 15.

It was a summer day, and I was alone in the house. I was sitting at my kitchen table reading a news magazine. For some reason I looked up toward the back door, which opened on to a small, enclosed porch. The door to the yard was closed.

Standing in the doorway was a figure dressed like a Continental soldier. I wasn't frightened--I just looked at it for a few seconds, then suddenly it hit me that people don't dress that way anymore.

I still wasn't frightened, but whatever it was just vanished.

For what it's worth, I was living in Philadelphia at the time, in an area not too far from the section called Germantown (which was at one time separate from Philadelphia--you can even see the former town hall, which is still standing), which was the site of a battle during the Revolutionary War. Also, many years after we had both grown up, one of my younger brothers said he'd seen the same figure.

Ghost or not? I leave it to you.

Yes, I actually have had many. Most of the time I'm okay with it. The ability to see and feel spirits is a common thing among my family. However, on occasions I am scared due to the nature of the spirit. If I feel evil from it I'm scared. There isn't much I can do since they aren't human. I've just had a holy person come pray the evil spirit out of my house. This of coarse is only done if the spirit has become bothersome. It really worked, the spirit is gone.

yes.When my son was in his crib I woke up to see an old man standing at the foot of the crib.I put my arm across my baby,at this the old man smiled at me gently shook his head and walked into my wardrobe.He was wearing a woolen cardigan with buttons down the front and he had a pipe in his pocket.I told my neighbour,who said I described the old man who had lived there all his life.I never saw him again.
