someone who is honest and blunt with you, someone you able to talk to whatever the subject and know that you will get a sensible answer and not one that will make you feel better. Someone who is not afraid to tell you when you are being an idiot. Someone who knows your dreams and desires and helps you to achieve them.
Someone you can count on at any time and will never be too busy to help.
someone who shares their secrets or problems with you and needs you as a friend as well.

So many things make a good friend. I once read a quote which I thought was quite nice it went...

"One random day, call every one in your phone book and ask them if you can have an urgent lift to the airport, The ones who say yes are your friends, the ones who say no are not your enemies, they are just acquaintances."

I don't necessarily agree with the quote but it is an interesting theory and I agree with the basis behind what is said i.e. - a good Friend is some one that you can rely on.

my good friends are: Funny, entertaining, caring, thoughtful, helpful, always there for me, and loyal.

Have fun, chill out, not to take things too seriously, be there for each other by listening and give support when needed. Don't get too hung up about who's turn is it to visit etc (this does go on sadly!) or how it long it's been since you last saw/spoke to each other, just accept each person for all their good/bad attributes warts and all! They also have to be trustworthy in that you can disclose absolutely anything about yourself and trust that person enough for it to go no further. Sadly too many people don't fit that criteria and you get 'stamped' on!

i think a good true friend is someone who would do any thing for you and you for them someone who no's you inside out and you them someone who you can talk to about anything and them you someone you can go out in ant social situation or surrounding and have good time and someone who's there when you just want a big great hug.xx

for me, a good friend is someone who is able to listen, who is honest, and who is trustworthy and reliable. i've had too many so-called 'friends' in the past who just used me, i learnt the hard way, and now i have a small group of people who i can truly call 'friends'. i like to think they feel the same way about me.
