If it's loaded in preview mode, click the Close button. Otherwise click on View, then Zoom, then 100% or full page.

Close print preview mode or whatever mode. You may be used to Page-layout or "Normal" views. Go to the view toolbar to change this. There are handy shortcut buttons in Word at the bottom left corner of the window, that change the views quickly.
Print Preview mode can be turned off directly through the file menu.

This is unfortunately an annoying feature in Office 2003 called the "Reading Layout".
To switch layouts, go into the View menu, and select another layout (e.g., "Print Layout").
For a more permanent fix, tell Word to not use Reading Layout by default:
1. Go into the Tools menu, then Options
2. Switch to the General tab
3. Uncheck "Allow starting in Reading Layout" and click OK

There should be a close button on the toolbar at the top. If not, you can go to the View menu and switch to "Print Layout".

Nothing has happened all you have to do is to go to format menu and select the columns and set it to single column per page and that all you will have only one column per page .
