I am assuming that it started to spit and sputter just after the tune up. If this was the case then chances are something is not right with the tune up. Rule out electrical first.I would
1.) check all wire properly seated on spark plugs

2.) check gap and for FOULING on each plug and for cracked or broken porcelain insulator.

3.) check firing order (wires properly run to correct cylinder)

4.) check all that has been disturbed like connectors to fuel injectors leaks to air intake.

5.) Check for vacuum leaks common ailment. Check MAP (or MASS) sensor.

If it was sputtering before and after all that work then I think the plugs would give a good indication of engine condition. Fuel pressure and other sensors would be next for me. If fuel injectors were reused one still could be bad but I would rule out fuel pump first.A shot of starting fluid into the air intake might rule out fuel related problems.

Before you check the computer, you need to do the right diagnostics on the car. Check each plug wire with a spark tester plug or whatever you want to use just make sure that each plug is getting the fire. (I don't suggest the use of a finger, it really bites.). If all of the plugs are not firing properly you may be looking at a faulty coil pack. About 30.00 on that car. If all of the plugs are firing correctly then you may have a bad Ignition module if it does it while hot or under a load only. You can take it off and the local parts store can test that one for you. If all of that is OK then you may want to check fuel pressure just to make sure that fuel pump is OK, that is not as common but a possibility. Hope this helps Good luck

I think I would start with checking the gap on the plugs, and making sure the wires are ok. Then I would also check the coils and I believe this car has a cap(electronic ignition no rotor/distributor). If all that checks out then I would have the computer tested, most dealerships will do that for about $75-$125. If the computer checks out then I would have the exhaust system checked out, sometimes partial plugging of the catalic converter will make this happen as well.

The last thing anyone wants to recognize is a bad Computer. Check the computer or the chip.
