Hey guys I was wandering if there is anybody here who knows of cases when international students got admitted to US medical schools.
Right now I am in my 3rd year doing biology and chemistry, planning to take MCAT in may 07...so I was looking for anybody with similar experience..if there is anybody who knows of cases like this please let me know...
The problem is that lots of my7 teachers at school here say that its extremely hard for international kids to be admitted to med schools...problem is due to residence status i guess...so I m becoming more and more desperate now..some teachers say that i need to get a GC as soon as possible..but the only way for as i can c is thru marriage which is...well I m 20 now and with all the classes its just hard to keep up with dating and everything..damn I really wanna get into med school and be a surgeon after all,,but what if this status as an F-1 student gonna keep me away from my dream....sucks...
anyways, hope to hear from you guys...
thanks

First of all I would check out the forums at
http://www.studentdoctor.net
They have specific international forums for Foreign Medical Graduates. It is the largest forum on the net. You will probably get the best advice from there because they have "been there suffered already :P")

Also I would check out the links listed in the KMLE Medical Dictionary(http://www.kmle.com) USMLE forum.
http://www.kmle.com/links.php?cat=17

And purchase First Aid for the USMLE Step 1: 2007 (First Aid for the Usmle Step 1) (Paperback)
http://www.amazon.com/First-Aid-USMLE-Step-Usmle/dp/0071475311/sr=8-1/qid=1168438799/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/104-3299523-8504754?ie=UTF8&s=books
Has a FULL chapter on what is necessary.

I don't know all the details, but it's actually fairly common for foreign citizens to make it into US med schools. If you're sufficiently qualified the admissions or other department will probably be willing to provide a lot of help in this area. Talk to the school(s) you plan to apply to and see what advice or help they can give.

Where residency (usually) or academics (less often but enough to make people nervous) prevents an initial admission to med schools, it's not unusual for foreign med students to start at an offshore school - many in the Caribbean - and later transfer to a school in the US.
