I am suffering from lower back pain (just mild so nothing really to worry about) when I get up in the morning, has anyone tried one of those latex 'memory foam' mattress toppers? Do they work? are they worth it?

Thanks

I got a memory foam mattress topper in Argos the other day cost £74.99 but worth the money , as my back hasn't been as sore from using it, also i would suffer fro cramps in my lower legs too.
Got memory foam pillow too i didn't think it would work as i usually have two big pillows behind me. No stiff neck in trying to sit up my posture must of been right the way i was lying cause i don't feel half as sore as i did .Should have got these months ago www.argos.co.uk can buy of internet or they will keep item in store for you for two days for you to collect. I tried looking on different shopping places on internet and argos was the cheapest and best of all i went into the store and could see what i was buying.

Hi, there is a difference between latex and "memory foam" toppers. Latex is made from natural or synthetic rubber, while "memory foam" is made from polyurethane and a number of hazardous chemicals. I recently became very ill because of a reaction to a new memory foam mattress, and was shocked to find that many, many people have become sick from the horrible chemicals, such as formaldehyde, that are the main components of theese mattresses. In fact, out of 20 mattress companies in Germany, the industry leader, Tempur-Pedic, was rated "most hazardous," by the leading consumer group, and the company removed it from the shelves until they had removed all the hazards, but that is only for their German companies.
Here is a link of people's experiences: http://www.chem-tox.com/guest/guestbook.html

I hope this helps! I hope no one has to suffer from what I have gone through. That being said, I think latex, though more expensive, is a great choice for your lower back pain. It is MUCH more comfortable and supportive for your body, just make sure the company you choose is safe and is not using hazardous chemicals in the production of your mattress.

The toppers you find at Wal-Mart and discount stores are only as good as the mattress underneath. Please do not waste your money on those. I bought one for my queen size bed, as my husband needs a very firm mattress, but the mattress hurts my hips and back. The topper I have is less than 2 inches thick, and although it offers little relief, I wouldn't make the purchase if given a second chance. If you can afford it, get the tempurpedic mattress.

yes they do make a difference but if you have only just started experiencing back pain then I would examine other thngs, like your posture and how you are sitting during the day. Or whether you are lifting heavy things wrongly. They are the things that are causing the back pain. A good memory foam topper does make a difference to your comfort, but before you buy it I'd think about why your back is aching and perhaps change something there.

Memory foam is expensive...foam bed toppers are fine but put a pillow underneath your knees when you go to bed...it really works for back problems as I spent 7 months in the hospital and the pillow under yr knees works well.

I think you would feel more benefit from a firm mattress. Back pain suggests lack of support. memory foam comfortable as it is would not help your back!
