What do you think of the price and the quality of their computers? Did you ever had any problems with them? If yes, were you satisfied with their customer service? Do you recommend computers from Dell? Is there any other retailer better than Dell price and performance wise? Other comments and opinions might be helpful. Thank you.

My husband and I bought a Dell XPS 600 last year. We got the best of everything on it and it still didn't cost as much as it would if we were to buy a gateway or what not with the same things. We had the mouse break on us a few months after we got the computer. We called Dell about the problem and 2 days later we had a brand new mouse, no cost and we didn't have to return the other one. Other than that problem, we've had no problem what so ever with the computer. Best computer we've ever had in fact. And when we did talk to customer service, they were extremely nice and polite to us. Better than Hp was with me with my laptop. Good luck on your computer search. But remember, all people are different and their preferences are the same. What I may like and another person may like, may not be whats right for you. Do some on-line research and heck even call the customer service numbers and tell them you are looking at buying a computer and you want to know about its pro's and con's, if they are a good company they will tell you.

I disagree with the memory thing....We have tons of flippin games on this computer. At least 30, to include all the Sims 2 games, Zoo Tycoon, Command and Concur and we have no problem with it.... Hardly takes up any memory.

Dell is not for me but my son has both PC and laptop and they seem to be happy with it except for when it had a virus my son called the Dell company and the person who answered was Indian with a very strong accent so my son ask where they are located, he was told from India. They outsource.
Also last year when they travel overseas, they were told that all Dell laptop cannot be turn on on board the airplane bec of the battery issue last year. All other laptop are oky to use onboard but not Dell. It annoyed my son very much bec part of the reason buying a laptop is so that he can use it while on plane or overseas travel.
Personally I am using Fujitsu laptop and I have a Sony Vaio PC which is now 9 years old and still does very well.

Dell is a good overall brand. Same basic components as most other PCs.

Major differences are that if you're computer savvy, Dell is a pain because whenever you format it or do any major modifications, you need a key that you can only obtain from calling Dell tech support (from my experiences). Other computers such as HP are lower down the totem pole but do offer easier self tinkering with nearly equal overall performance.

My experiences with Dell tech support... weren't real great. Call between 9-5 m-f if you ever have any problems and expect it to take as much as an hr to have anything resolved.

I got mine in 2000. It wasn't cheap, but it was my first computer and I got a lot of extras. About a month after I received it, the monitor went out. Because I had the 3 yr. protection plan, they sent me a new one, then the keyboard went out, got a new one. The only other problems I had was that my hard drive crashed, that I believe was my own fault, after 3 years, and a lot of downloading and files added. I'm still using the same computer though. It's a bit slow now, but overall, I haven't had many problems with it. Once this finally dies, I would strongly consider getting another Dell. Besides, they are 50% cheaper now than what I paid for it back then!

Dells are great. I've bought 8 computers now and they are all Dell and still work well. The trick is to get upgrades.
Each time I've got support, they have been great and easy.
Plus saving me plenty of money to buy more computers or for newer upgrades. Just buy the PC, don't worry about the extra peripherals they sell or warrnaty plans...

Dell is like McDonald's ...
... the specials look great but when you add the fries & a coke it costs as much as anywhere else.

Just because they sell the most burgers in the world does not mean it's the best burger in the world.

I guess you've concluded by now that I have no love for Dell.

Go for an HP Media Center PC. They have no proprietary part whatsoever (contrary to popular belief) & their customer support is second to none. Prices are most competitive.

I hate Dell/ Microsoft. I have sed their computers, and half of the time it doesnt work. I hate how they set stuff up, and customer service is a bunch of drunks.
I use a Mac for one reason: IT JUST WORKS. it might be a bit higher priced, but now, with an intel duo core proccessor, any time you need to switch over from mac to pc, its a snap.

Of course it appears to be cheap, and also it appears great service, they send it to your home, but being clear, dell sucks, they sell cheaper because they don't include many usefull accesories, and also they give you credit options, but they increase the price when you ask for that option, in my opinion dell is for the masses.

Buy a Dell and its extended warranty then you won't be disappointed. Trust me on this one :)

Dell offers the fastest response and most convenient after sales support I believe no other vendors can beat. I have bought more than 5 systems from them (laptops & desktops) over years and have had only few minor issues which were fixed in no time.

Again, it is highly recommended!!

Fast sale support.
Customer service SUCKS.

Bought a PC that was nothing but problems out of the box.I call customer support and waiting 40 minutes to get a answer, then I get a immigrant that cant speak English, since we didn't understand each other he hung up on me. I returned it and built my own.
