A friend of mine has sworn off men 4ever so I'm doing a survey here.

She's young but has 2 take blood thinners 4 health problems & was told by many doctors to NEVER get pregnant. She can't get fixed -- doctors refuse 2 do it because she has severe (life & death) bleeding & clot risks if she ever has surgery.
Condoms can break & birth control pills would interfere with her blood thinners.
Her ex-fiancee and other men she's asked over the past 2 years said they would never have a vasectomy no matter how big a life & death risk to her or any woman, even tho a vasectomy's done quickly with a local anasthetic & low risk.

Would you have a vasectomy for a woman you like or love so you could have a relationship? Why or why not?

The guys she asked gave reasons like they may want 2 have kids some day, or it would make them less of a man.

definitely we're obviously not going to be able to have kids, so why wouldn't i? if things didn't work out, a vasectomy can always be reversed. but, i'm a romantic at heart...

Yes, I would. Vasectomies can be undone now. It's a simple operation to clamp, but just a little more complicated to unclamp. Either way, it is day-surgery. But it would have to be a really, really serious relationship.

I was just informed today, that although it is day surgery, it is extremely uncomfortable for about 6 weeks afterwards. The recovery time for removing the clamp is also uncomfortable. Again, it would have to be a really, really, really serious relationship.

Besides, your friend might want to be selective in the level of activity in a new relationship, and there are other options for playing games until the relationship becomes serious.

Sounds like your friend needs to find someone that can relate to her problem. Cause thats a very touchy subject to ask someone and its very life changing. Its a lot to ask especially if boyfriends and ex-fiance are young as well.
And my answer is "no." The reason is simple. I shouldn't have to change for anybody even if in love because its my body and my decision.

Afraid she's looking for a very small needle in a very large haystack. Not impossible to find, but tough, though. Why would any sensible male undergo an irreversible vasectomy for a relation that can break up anytime, uh?

Hmmm, tough question. It boils down to this: That is a very harsh request to make of a man. And while I empathize with the two men that refused, if I truly loved this woman, there is nothing that I wouldn't do for her...nothing. That is a small price to pay for her safety, and the ability to be with her forever.

If I really loved her, I would perform the vasectomy on myself if necessary with a piece of broken glass! (well, not really, but I would do anything for the woman I loved)

The kids thing would get me. But if there was never any intention to have children of your own then yes and if you happened to change your mind you could adopt.

tell your friend to not give up hope. I'm sure there's a guy out there who would love her for who she really is and who would do anything for her.
if i was a guy i know I'd do that for the person that i love because when you are really in love you are only looking for ways to make the 'other' happy.

tell her not to give up hope.
