as when you use caps only and you know some words are spelt wrong, just to test the thing, when you hit F7 spell checker It says done all ok. How can i fix this. Hope someone knows the answer. Thanks

It's in the "settings". Go into settings and uncheck the box that says "Ignore words in uppercase"

Another reason it ignores capitals is because they are often abbreviations, eg NATO, or MP, etc, and they are far too numerous and specialised to put in Word's dictionary. But yes, you can change the setting in Tools/Options/Spelling & Grammar.

Alternatively, we could all learn to spell correctly and we wouldn't need a spell checker anyway!

Because capital letters are not a spelling error. It is a grammatical error. use the correct checker. AS YOU CAN SEE THE SPELL CHECKER Does Not know the difference.
