IF it is a contract (not pay as you go) they can get the information within the hour from your cellphone company
nothing for the pay as you go cellphones
and a dead cellphone (no paid service contract or pay as you go) can contact 911 and nothing will come up to trace it back to.
Location yes, person no
if you are thinking of doing something
get a pay as you go
(pay cash)
use it for your deed
and drop the phone at the mall or leave it on the bleachers at a high school basketball /football game

Yes law enforcement agencies can trace your location if you have a phase2 phone (newer model) and you call 911. Most times to actually trace someone through their cell phone they would need a warrant to obtain all the information

Yeah they can trace it because you are sending information through the air to other people; so they can just catch the waves. Some cell phones even have gps tracking on them now.

Yes!!! You can leave behind a trail of records but can show who you called, time you called and where you were when you made that call. This information is provided by cell towers, which can pinpoint you location in seconds.

Ahh...anyone with caller ID can trace a call. What cops are capable of doing is far beyond that.

yup, Police can trace any cellphone that is "on" and transmitting. It will take time to triangulate your position, but they can find you.(this is complicated and is not done unless seriously necessary).
