I've just watched a few of the newly remastered original series. This includes massive new digital shots and enhancements to the Enterprise, the scenery, alien vessels, etc. Even hand weapons appear to actually "fire" with the new technology.
I think it looks absolutely spectacular. My wife thinks it's a bit sacreligious. How do you hardcore trekkies (Like her and myself) see it?

I am a very hardcore trekker, I think this is a wonderful idea. It's a tv show, my gosh, it's supposed to be the future.. so they make it look more like the future.. it's like putting a fresh coat of paint on a beautiful old house. You can still watch the untouched version if you want too.. I also think this might increase interest by a younger generation in a very classic show. That's just me. The only thing I hate about it is that I will have more dvd's to buy.

I'm all for remastering classic shows like Star Trek, I'm sure it looks amazing; I've yet to see it myself!

This means I'll have to give my dad a call now...we used to watch Star Trek together all the time when I was growing up :)

Looking real is always the highest priority. The watcher has to be convinced so he can follow the story and live it as a true observer. If he's thinking the whole time how primitive the special effects are, it's a distraction to the storyline. So, yeah, any improvements like this are a plus.

personally the special effects are a model of what can be done in the future. All we really need is the mathematical equation to prove that it works, from the maths comes science (the materials) that uses the maths and there we have it. The end results.
