1.what does he mean when he says:
Don't give me love that's clean and smooth
2.And did any singer cover this song? if so, who?

btw i'd like to know what do u think of and how do u understand that verse

Bernie Taupin wrote the lyrics to that song. I remember reading about it, and if I remember right, I think Bernie was talking about his own troubled marriages in the words of the song. I've never heard another singer cover the song, although Robert Downey Jr. is in the video of the song, but he's not actually singing it.
