Yes, there is always a chance. Slightly less during menstruation, but not impossible at all.
And a note: he may have legitimately not known she was having her period because it can be so light during certain parts of the day (nights, for many women), that there is no flow for several hours. It is not a constant flow throughout the day.
Tell her to get a test and to go on the pill if she isn't going to use protection.

Yes, it is very possible. A healthy woman has two ovaries which each shed an ovum every alternative month. At times the ovary sheds an ovum too early after the other has done so and passed through the tract to be expelled (menstruation). At such an instance the shed ovum may meet with a viable spermatozoon (after coitus or sex) and the two fuse and pregnancy occurs. So it is not always very safe to have unprotected sex during menstruation as anything is likely to happen if the synchronisation has not effectively taken place. It is also not so safe or hygienic to have sex during menstruation.

While it is not very likely to happen, it is minutely possible. Sperm can live up to five days inside the uterus, so if she ovulates shortly after her period, then it would be possible to become pregnant while having unprotected sex while she has her monthly...As I said, though, this is quite rare as most women don't ovulate until well after her period has stopped: usually at least a week later which is much too long for any sperm to live.

First of all, he would have been able to tell for himself if she was on her period, so if he had to take her word for it, she was lying.
Anyway, there is only a 1-5% chance of getting pregnant during her period. So it is possible, but highly unlikely.
Again, if he did not see the blood, then she was lying and probably intentionally trying to get pregnant. Having sex on her period is very, very messy.

Yeah, it's possible. She should use a condom every time. Even pulling out won't work, cause the pre-ejaculation contains sperm which can get her pregnant.

Yes it is possible please tell your friend pregnancy is the least of his worries. Along with having a child, he could contract any of the non curable sexually transmitted diseases. There is too much at stake do not trust anyone you are not in a commited relationship with protect yourself and your future children by wearing condom. These types of mistakes can not be changed and they will follow you for the rest of your friends life. Let him know this and good luck
