No i don't think that's excessive for a home setup I have 512mb and i am going to upgrade to a 1024 the more ram you have the faster and better performance you can get out of your computer. Especially for multi=tasking or surfing the web a lot. Go to this website it will explain the importance of ram. I hope this helps

265k ram? I think you mean 256mb. Anyways, I think the more ram you have the better, as long as you can afford it. An average user would need about 1024mb of ram, while gamers would need about 2-4gb of ram. However, for casual internet surfers 512mb will suffice.

i don't think that is too high for home use .....
for me i still think 256 it too low for a PC
512MB is sensible for home use but what i recommend is 1GB ram if you are going to perform heavy applications like Games, video editing ,pics editing, and it will also help you load more programs at once ...but if you are not using your computer often at home then stick with 256....or upgrade it to 512 MB ..

most computers today come with at least 512 mb of ram to support the high end applications. i say upgrade your memory for smoother performance. i have 1gb of notebook memory (cost me like $50) and my computer never lags.

Keep running yor PC with 256MB RAM. If you feel its slower than upgrade it to 512MB or even 1024MB/1GB. All depends how many programa u wanna run.
