If you were attending a 4th grade class basketball game and on one team there was a player who was the tallest on the team, and an outstanding player and yet a team player. The score on the winning team is 34. Of the 34 points, 20 were made by the outstanding team member. Problem: Why was it that when the outstanding team player scored, no one in the stands yelled "Way to go"!, etc? Yet when a poorer player made a score, everyone shouted? Did the crowd resent the better player or think this player didn't need the same support the poorer players needed?

I've always wondered this too...
I think that it is because people expect more from the better player. So it isn't a shock when they score.
However, people love the underdog and overacheivers. So they are more apt to cheer for the lesser players.
Great Question.

i think it's because a good player dont need as much encouragement then a poor player. and if you keep on yelling 'way to go' each time a good player score, when the game is finished, you'll be losing your voice.

People have been so "indoctrinated" into this "fairness crap" they don't want to "hurt the other girls feelings". I have to agree I think if a kid is good at something then they need recognition that they are above the crowd. 4th grade basketball included!!

the parents may have expected this kid to make the points, or maybe the parent of that kid was the coach... maybe they werent there.. who knows, but i always feel an urge to cheer for teh less talented players when they do good, brings up there moral
