I just can't work out what to do with the beaters.Please give a few hints explaining in detail.

The Beaters AI is rather pathetic. They usually won't be able to stop the bludger from hitting you, so the best way to use them is as follows:
Just as the bludger starts to turn back and chase you, duck to one side, wait a moment, then whirl to the right and speed away. If you do it right, then one of your beaters will hit the bludger.
