i had this problem a few days ago, i spoke to the nhs, they told me that if i have had chicken pox as a child them my baby is protected, if so i wouldn't worry too much about that as it is highly unlikely that you would get it again, if you haven't had it before you need to get in contact with you doctor as it can cause complication with your baby, also if you have had chicken pox you may still be able to catch shingles, i was told that after 12 weeks it's not too much of a concern but i suggest that you ring up the nhs helpline and speak to them.

Regardless of whether or not you've had chicken pox (HHV-6), please see your medical professional as soon as possible. Hopefully everything is okay, but it is best to see your Obstetrician. In the meantime, read this excerpt (URL to full article below), and check out MEDLINE:

The emerging picture suggests that HHV-6 behaves like the other viruses in its class: If a mother is infected with HHV-6 for the first time during pregnancy, there is probably a risk to the fetus. During the first trimester, that risk would be the possibility of miscarriage. Later in pregnancy, infection would be more likely to result in birth defects, if there were a problem. Once a woman has had HHV-6 (and the most recent estimates are that more than 95% already have), subsequent exposure carries no significant risk. Since most pregnant women will have already been exposed to roseola before pregnancy, the likelihood of danger to your fetus due to your recent exposure to roseola is very slim. However, during pregnancy, it is wise to keep your obstetrician informed of any significant exposures. Be sure to also report to your obstetrician if any symptoms develop.

Contact in 1st trimester is dangerous and also in the last 6weeks, especially dangerous if mother to be has never had chicken pox herself in earlier years, get this checked by a medical proffessional.

Yes, I urge you to contact the doctor right away. I am sure it does impact your pregnancy. Unfortunately, I do not remember much except when my daughter had chicken pox the doctor had to let her into the back door and I was told not to let her contact the pregnant women. So contact the doctor and then you know what to do next. Good luck and come back to let everyone knows.

No not at this stage in her pregnancy. The only time chicken pox can harm the baby is in the last six weeks of pregnancy.

I think it's fine as long as the mother has had chicken pox, she would then have the anti bodies to give her unborn child to fight the virus.

Medical books suggest baby abnormalities if a pregnant woman comes in contact with chickenpox. However it is quite rare but you should inform your doctor if you have been in contact with someone with chickenpox if only for him to reassure you. Good luck.
