Being gay is not a choice.

I'll break up my answer to you.

First, as far as the physical attraction to the same sex goes: Yes, gay men are physically attracted to and aroused by other men's bodies. Their specific preferences for partners are almost always different but it seems to be based on handsomeness, how masculine a potential partner is, his youth or age, his hairniness, muscles, and the list goes on -- very similar to what, quite frankly, a heterosexual lady might be looking for physically in a man. Think about too what a straight guy would be looking for physically in a woman -- that is what lesbian gals might look for too. Yet, there are also non-physical stimuli like compatibility, kindness, sense of humor, etc.

Second, you preface your question with "choose to be gay." The vast majority of gay people would tell you they do not choose to be gay and probably most of them would tell you they were born that way and had no choice in the matter. I would add to that and say that there may be some social forces succinctly and silently at work in orientation development (besides biological aspects) but even then, the person has no choice in the matter. When they are telling you this (that they did not choose) gay men and women are not lying to you. They are revealing a great truth about themselves.

I think it all comes down to definition - how do you define being gay? Surely a straight man can have a friendship with the same sex (based on some level of attraction) without being labeled gay. However at what point does it become 'gay'? Is it when you have some sort of physical relationship with someone or is it admiting you have some level of attraction towards someone? If the latter then what depth of attraction does that need to be to become 'gay'?
My point is being 'gay' implies an exclusive attraction on a physical and emotional level with members of the same sex, yet in all honesty we are far more complicated creatures than that. Therefore the answer to your question is it is all down to definition and how you feel comfortable defining your sexuality.

It is the physical and the affective aspects that distinguish most persons who have same sex attraction. I don't think it is a decision that people make. The determiants may be many and diverse depending upon the persons. These might be genetic pre-dispositions and/or qualities of nuture. Some persons I am sure are attracted to their own sex but do not have an interest in sexual relations. Among humans there are innumerable variations of sexual inclinations. That is not to say that all such variations are ordered. Some, as same sex attraction, are disordered.

Nobody knows why gay/lesbian/bisexual/straight are that way it's just the way they are it's not a choice! Say someone tried to be straight to make society and their family happy if there against it, it's just not gonna happened because if u are attracted to the same sex it's always gonna be with you for the rest of your life and your not gonna be happy, or sexually satisfied and most important not be truly in love with that person. In the end your only lying to yourself, be with whoever makes you happy that's what really counts in life!!!

When will people understand that, with a few exceptions, no one chooses to be gay...they're born that way.
I have no idea why some would choose to be gay, when most of the ones who were born that way, would give anything if they weren't.

people may turn gay for reasons like, extreme sensitivity to certain matters, an extreme compassion for people, liking the way the same sex looks more than the oppostite sex, or it could simply be because the have a deep relationship with a member of the same sex and decide they want to be closer.. i could never be gay, and cant figure out how they are able to do it, but i also support them, free country, and your a human, do what you will

Not everybody is the same. It's emotional even spiritual for me. There is just a deep butterfly-like feeling that comes over me when I'm attracted to a certain guy. This feeling has been with me since my teens. It's what always reminds me that I'm gay!

People are born gay, that's why. We don't choose to live lives where people hate us; it's simply developed in our brains before birth. Hopefully this answers your question.

Nobody chooses to be gay. Nobody turns gay.
Some people might try to suppress it then stop, but that's about it.

i think people don't choose to be gay.. well people choose whether or not they do gay actions, but they can't choose who they're attracted to..? but i'm not sure. i'm only guessing from those stories of closeted gays who go emo and suicidal because they're ashamed of themselves. if they had a choice, i'm sure they would "choose" to be attracted to girls. that's logical, right? ...
