No, only distilled water can be added after the electrolyte level has been checked. First you should have determined what kind of battery you had "maintenance free" or "serviceable" . Most commercial and "Heat Beater" batteries have to be checked. Second you should have cleaned the top so you did get any foreign material in it. If it was a Maintenance free you may have voided the warranty or find that the tops no longer seal----- step one, read the owners manual.

Dehumidifier For Car

Yes you can. You can also use tap water, that is what most people use. It s easier to come by. Years ago distilled water or rain water that had never been exposed to metal was recommended. The life of battery is extended by keeping it full of water and fully charged.

I check the water level every 3000 miles in trucks and cars, other equipment every 100 hrs. If a piece of equipment is going to set for any length of time, I hook a charger to the battery every couple of months. The past 5 years I have been using "Float" chargers, they can be purchased at any auto part store.

Maintenance batteries are made to sell, most of them the top can be lifted off with a good screw driver. Just be careful, I usually get 6 years or better out of a battery. I have had a few that lasted 10 years, and also a few that only went 3. I always think the 3 year ones were my fault, not the fault of the battery.

I usually have 12 to 15 pieces of equipment that require a battery.

By the way, did you know that maintainance free batteries were put in cars back in the early 90's. Your average car battery is maintainance free. What you probably had a hard time prying off the top of the battery you are messing with are "ventallation caps" those are to be removed for charging purposes only. jacking with the electrolyte leve in those may result in explosion. Do youself a favor, read where it says maintainance free at on the side of the battery that there buddy.
