Oh, man, I loved playing Horatio. He's got the best seats in the house for both Ophelia's mad scene and Hamlet's death scene.
Think about the period in which you're setting it, and about Horatio's relationship to Hamlet. If it's modern dress (a very good way to set Hamlet), bring something that you and Hamlet do together. Maybe they play tennis; bring a racket. Maybe they're computer hackers; bring a laptop. Or just bring a flashlight for the night scenes.
It's a little trickier if you're setting it Renaissance style, because it's hard to find ordinary object that look appropriate. Try finding a cloak for the first scene, which is cold. Or find/make/buy a fake torch (fire is very, very bad on stage, but you can even make do with a stick and some orange construction paper. It won't look realistic, but distance is your friend, and the audience will give you a lot of suspension of disbelief.)
Horatio's kind of a nerd, too. Try bringing a philosophy book. That'll work no matter what period you set it in.
Mostly, though, try to find a way to love Horatio. He's literally left all alone on stage at the end of the play. His best friend has just died in his arms. "Goodnight, sweet prince," is one of the saddest lines I've ever heard, and I've seen audiences weep over that line. (They even did it for me a few times.) It's your own little starring moment, all alone on stage, surrounded by dead bodies.

Sorry to say that if that's your opinion of Horatio maybe you should think of bowing out of the show. No self-respecting actor in the WORLD can ever play a character properly if they can find no redeeming aspects - even if they're playing Adolf Hitler, Macbeth or Saddam Hussein. You have to empathize with the character. If you think Horatio is just a loser who never does anything then that's exactly how your performance will go - you won't do anything and you'll lose.

He's Hamlet's best friend. It's actually a fairly significant part.
If I were you, I would take a prop sword. They were a violent people.
