Damn-I lost my checkbook. I say lost, i am giving the people where i was the benefit of the doubt, but theres only two places it could be. And none of them is in my house. I of course called b of a as soon as i found out and put stop payment from the last check i wrote to the end of the book.
Is there a fee to stop payment on a whole book of checks? even in event of theft or loss? If so how much?

the most important thing is what can a thief or common thug do with my checkbook? it has deposit tickets and a register in it...
I feel like a complete moron. i've had my identity stolen once before...i am afraid its happening again...
can they open accounts/cards in my name? help! eternally grateful for any info....

I would kill the account. The identity theft thing is miserable, and you already know how lethal it can be.

In the old days, horse thieves were hanged. Put an end to that.

Methinks it would not be a sin to do the same to car-jackers or identity thieves now days.

But for now, just kill any possibly exposed account and start from scratch. (PS ---even something as simple as a car registration is worth money in the black market.)

Contact your bank ASAP with the check numbers you had in your book, tell them that that selection of checks was stolen and to flag any use of them, hopefully they can nip it in the bud that way. Now, most businesses do an immediate check verification, so if those numbers are blocked by the bank, the business will know right away that something is up.

Hope it helps. Don't feel like a moron, many many people have to deal with identity theft, and it's ultimately the thief's fault not your own.

Inform Your bank immediately and they will inform you. If there are any checques written. Just ask the bank to block/stop any payments coming from that checking book!

It would be a good idea to change your account number...So close the current account and Get a new one. The same with all your credit card etc.

Each bank as their own way of solving this stuff. They will help u out. Just call them ASAP.

call your bank asap, if somebody else has the checks, they can cash them, and use the info from the checks to get your account number and withdraw money from your account, and its likely that they now also have your name and address

Not that big a deal.
The thief would have to show ID to cash a check, and cashing such a check is a felony.
