well most fish lay eggs un-less live bearer, really need to know what kind of fish, hope you did not mind my humor

Their belly will become larger and usually other fish stay close by in expectations of a free meal.
The main thing to look for is the belly area growing larger.

They usually get a little bump where their belly is and none of their old fish clothes fit anymore.
Also, they get really emotional over every little thing and make their fish husbands go out in the middle of the night to buy strange foods.
