In just about every Windows OS, if you right click on the My Computer Icon, then left click on Properties in the window that opens, it will show you what kind of processor you have. If you have the case of the PC open or are looking at a motherboard that is not installed in a complete PC, you can (VERY CAREFULLY and with an anti-static wrist strap on that is connected to the PC's metal frame) remove the heat sink (that's the thing that looks like a radiator with a fan on top) and look at what is printed on the processor itself.

In WinXP hit the windows key and then the pause/break key. Your CPU type should be in the lower right of that window that comes up. If this does not answer your question, please provide more details.
