Bigots in our government like to ignore the constitutional amendment to SEPERATE CHURCH AND STATE so they take quotes from the Bible and mix homophobic tradition with bullshite to come up with a bunch of crappy reasons why it shouldn't be allowed. Everything you said is true, it would be very beneficial to our country, but unfortunately, we live in a country that was founded (with good intent) upon republican theory, which used to be much more open minded, but nowadays that's the democrats. Republican theory deals with majorities of people and the majority of the USA does not want homosexual marriage. It sucks, I know.
And btw, I'm a devout Christian, but an open-minded and brain-bearing one, just the same. Thus, I am able to see the other side of the coin and I think it is much more shiney.

Why do Gays want to be married in the first place? Why don't they just draw up a contract written with the same dictates as a marriage license and marital contract just without the trappings of calling it a marriage?
Leave that to the traditional male/female relationship. It will probably not put those who interpret the Bible as to how it is written, as gospel, into a state of intolerance. Less of a you don't shove it down their throat repercussion. Time will soften the blow.
Don't tell me it's due to any religious precepts, for I have not seen the connection, but am willing to listen to reason.
Gays are not abiding by the written word to begin with so why do they need the Holy vows. They obviously do not heed to the written word, but still need God's approval. If you don't believe the Bible is the final word, then what do you need the word Marriage for?
THINK ABOUT IT!
Marriage originated from the Bible as a man cleaves to a woman. So what Gays are asking for is really the legal privelages of a legal marriage, and having been married twice I am not so sure that it is a privelage. I have noticed a lot of couples these day living together without the court mandated shackles of marriage. Why do you have to have the title and stigma of Marriage?
Instead of calling it Marriage why not just call it Manage or Buddyship, Union of Love, Unification, Unionship, United Unificators, the possibilities are creatively staggering.
I don't know, am I asking for too much tolerance from the Gay side?

All major world religions (not just Christianity) are agains homosexuality!
The biggest resistance to gay marriage comes form the religious 'right'.
They believe that marriage is about reproduction and obviously same sex couple can not reproduce. Yeah sure lesbian couples can have children but the children biologically only belong to one person in that couple, tho both people in that relationship could get themselves pregnant and have a child. Gay males have to find a surogate mother if they want to have a child (or adopt).
Yes gay marriage is allowed in my country - Canada but even now it is still controversial and the government that brought it in is no longer in power and so now the government that is in power and who never really agreed to gay marriage wants to make it so it is no longer allowed. (I don't think it will happen tho - now that it is allowed I think it will stay that way) There are also some countries in Europe that allow gay marriage. I hope that some day the USA allows it's gay citizens to marry. *hugs* JAC<

I know a Gay married couple (they married in Hawaii). They are the most sincere, generous, caring, loving, hard working couple and people that I have ever known.
Meanwhile they live next door to a heterosexual married couple who cheats on each other, fights, and raises their kids to grow up to be hoodlums.
If I could only be so lucky to have half the respect from society that these two gay men have for each other. The world would definitely be a better place.
Thanks for your topic.

Because evangelical Christians are annoying and believe that every word in the Bible is literally true, even though nearly every chapter has a different author. Since gay sex is trashed in the Bible they hate us and teach their children to hate us. They completely ignore the fact that gay marriage has done nothing negative to the cultures of Spain, Canada, Denmark, and the Netherlands.

Amen to that! As a white kid replied when asked why he'd risk his life to help black people when they were discriminated against "My understanding is my freedom is tied up in the freedom of every other person." My parents hated gays but I have come to believe If a brother or sister of mine isn't free to express themself, then nor am I. Like black people, gays will eventually get the right to chose whomever they want to love and be able to marry them. I don't understand how straight people can assert their right to love and get married and deny gays. Also, some christian preach their God loves everyone but will whip out a long list of all the people their God hates. Contradictory isn't it?

That is your right wing conservative types at work with your tax dollar. I agree that it should be legalized. Many gay couples are going to Canada where they can be married. I think that the USA needs to get with the times. There is nothing wrong with two people that love each other to marry.

it would influence me basically in that others might have the marvelous to marry. i don't comprehend how gay giraffes might influence me, nor do I care, for the reason that we glance to have fairly some giraffes. i might like information that undergo out that ninety 5% of giraffe intercourse is gay intercourse. 2 human beings in a residing, committed relationship might desire to be allowed to love and to marry. God would not discover it an abomination, until you're taking all the seven or so texts that even talk with homosexuality and use them out of context. God tells us to love. it is the commonplace commandment. with any luck we would have much less inhabitants explosions, fairly than having human beings proceed to have many multiples of infants.

You must remember that the US was founded on Protestant beliefs, and that some particular (and the most popular) religions frown upon gay relationships. I'm not saying it's right, far from it, but it's how things are. People are traditionalists, and don't like change. Especial such big changes. Politicians are afraid of popular opinion, but it should change eventually.

i really agree with you, there's nothing wrong with gays marrying each other, people are so close minded and obnoxious that they hate the things they don't understand. and (no offense to any religious people, just saying) i think the bible is rewritten as time passed by, if God thinks homosexuality is a sin, then does he think that loving and caring for a person is a sin too? and dosen't the lord forgive those who sin? then we people can too!
