Ksteve is correct!
Vulcan was an imaginary planet between the Sun and Mercury.
The reason for this hypothetical planet was the wobble of Mercury, that could not be explained at the time. These slight variations of the orbit of Mercury lead to believe that there was another "massive" object. Once accounting for it, the orbit of Mercury appeared correct.
We had to wait Einstein and his theory of relativity for the maths to be understood, a correction to the planetary motions made, including relativity, for the orbit of Mercury to be understood completely... and Vulcan to be useless and disappear.
Incidently, it is the correction of the orbit of Mercury that was one of the first proof of Einstein relativity theory!
Nevertheless, Spock came from Vulcan, but Vulcan is not in our solar system, but just part of the Federation, somewhere, "out-there".

Vulcan is the name proposed by a French mathematician for a hypothetical planet orbiting inside that of Mercury.
Although the existence of Vulcan has been proved impossible, the name is particularly apt, as Vulcan is the Roman god of fire.

There are officially eight planets in our solar system, none of them named "Vulcan."
Vulcan is an unofficial name given to a gas giant, extrasolar planet discovered in a distant star system
