Metric time has never really been in use for the time of day. It was introduced in France in 1793, but was set aside fairly quickly. It does use the "second" as it's base unit, then that is sub-divided into smaller intervals that are not really used in the real world. Tenths and sometimes hundreths are used to time races, but that's it.

The second is the standard metric base unit for time. The second is definitely used today.

Actaully it is used still, just not in any form beyond mesuring time in less than a second.

example: In audio recording you have 00:00;00.000 This is not decimal seconds its actually using milliseconds.

Also computers mesure the different responce times they have in metric time.

Was it ever used in the first place?
